simultaneous interpreting 

Think United Nations!  While the speaker talks the simultaneous interpreters relay the message (usually over headphones) in other languages to listening delegates, while simultaneously listening themselves to the next sentence.  The speaker's presentation can be delivered in real time to any number of delegates, in any number of required languages and without interruption.

Simultaneous interpreting is most often associated with large scale events such as conferences, live TV broadcasts and media launches where 2 or more languages are used.  Professional, state of the art audio/visual equipment is used to facilitate the process.  Interpreting demands intense levels of concentration and therefore the interpreters work in teams of 2 and alternate at regular intervals.
